Arches Watercolor Paper - My Favorite Brand of Paper

Paper, the foundation of all your paintings and creative drawings. As a hobby artist for almost a decade, I would consider it THE most important supply in your artist arsenal.

Why Arches Aquarelle Watercolor Paper?

Arches Aquarelle Paper was one of the first watercolor paper brands that I’ve tried back then (and I’ve tried many). It holds up to layers and layers of washing without losing vibrancy or its fibers. Some watercolor papers tend to thin and wear down with too much water, but not Arches. Dating back to the 1490s, Arches has been a staple in most Artist’s tools of the trade. Perfect for wet media and comes in a wide range of hot-pressed or cold-pressed formats. I prefer hot-pressed for my gouache paintings and cold-pressed for watercolors.

Of all the many brands of watercolor and wet media papers I’ve tried, I find myself gravitating back to Arches. They are truly a joy to work with and my paint pigments blend like a dream. Paper makes a huge difference in any artist’s work. I love the watercolor blocks for larger works where I don’t need to worry about paper warping or buckling when water is applied. For my sketchbooks, I always seek out handmade books bound with Arches Hot Pressed Aquarelle paper.

I’m a Featured Artist on Arches Homepage!

As of June 4th, 2021 - I am a featured artist on the Arches Paper Homepage! You can see my artist portfolio on their site here: https://arches-papers.com/artistes/susanna-lee/

I would highly recommend Arches paper to any water media artist. And no, I am not sponsored by Arches to review or post this. I’ve never been provided any “free” product by Arches because their product is just THAT good that it is worth every dollar on its own. Have you worked with Arches? Let me know if you have any questions or comments!
